Practical Notes

AEMT

  • Candidates will be scored using the Integrated Out of Hospital testing instrument.

  • Each station will be proctored by two state approved, licensed Paramedic skills examiners.

  • Candidates will have a professional AEMT partner that can perform assessments and interventions on their behalf.

    • Candidates will be required to perform the randomly assigned skill as directed by a skills examiner during the scenario and will not be able to receive assistance from professional partner or skill examiners.

  • Candidates may only retest a failed skill one time at the test site provided retest is allowed by Regional EMS Consultant.

    • If a candidate fails the second attempt at the assigned skill, the candidate must wait 15 days before attempting the third and final attempt at the skill at another testing opportunity.

  • Candidates should address the skills mandatory actions.

  • Max time allowed to complete station = 20 minutes.

    • No minimum time required in station

EMT

  • Assessed skill must be blind drawn by candidate at time of practical examination start.

  • Candidates will be scored using the medical and trauma assessment testing instruments.

  • Review Exam Coordinator Manual for updated requirements for skills examiners:

    • Must hold licensure level above level testing

  • Remainder of practical policies remain at institution/service level.

Paramedic

  • Candidates will be scored using the Dynamic Cardiology and Integrated Out of Hospital testing instruments.

  • Each station will be proctored by two state approved, licensed Paramedic skills examiners.

  • Candidates will have a professional Paramedic partner that can perform assessments and interventions on their behalf.

    • Candidates will be required to perform the randomly assigned skill as directed by a skills examiner during the scenario and will not be able to receive assistance from professional partner or skill examiners.

  • Candidates may only retest a failed skill one time at the test site provided retest is allowed by Regional EMS Consultant.
