Darren Ellenburg Program
Director of the Year Award

Darren K Ellenburg Program Director of the Year Award

History: This award was established in 2019 and is named in honor of Mr. Darren Ellenburg. Darren started in the Emergency Medical Services in 1986 when he joined the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew. Initially obtaining his EMT license in 1986, he continued his education to become a paramedic in 1988. After serving as the Region 1 EMS Consultant for the State of Tennessee, he was chosen to serve as the Paramedic Program Director at Northeast State Community College in 1993. From 1993 to his unexpected death in October 2015, Director Ellenburg worked to shape the hands and minds of the next generation of EMS providers. During his tenure at Northwest State, he served on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee EMS Education Association (TEMSEA), where the membership elected him to serve a President of the Association. Director Ellenburg served the organization, and its members, faithfully for more than a decade. His dedication to the association, education, and profession is evidenced by his caring and compassionate attitude towards the patients he treated, the students he instructed, and the profession he loved.
