This course serves as an option for the required initial education component for new EMT or Paramedic I/C. It can also serve as a renewal option for all instructor endorsements. This course is for the new, soon to be, or recently new Preceptor and/or Field Training Officer. The role of the trainer has been said to be one of if not the most important role in any EMS service. In this course we will empower you with a few tools and skills to help you be successful in your role as a trainer, whether that be as a preceptor for a student or as a field training officer in your agency. In this course we will describe the qualities of a good trainer and discuss the importance of self-development. We will define the roles of the trainer and discuss how you can work with our administration to fulfill and exemplify the roles and qualities within your organization. We will discuss the components of a high-quality training program. Lastly, we will also demonstrate how to provide feedback constructively and have those crucial conversations.

Ed Monk, Lt. Col. Ret. USA
With experience as a police officer, school teacher, firearms trainer, and Army officer, Ed Monk has been researching, writing, and providing training on the Active Shooter threat for over 17 years. He has trained the staffs of public schools, church security teams, armed citizens, and Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) on countering the Active Shooter. He has provided presentations on the Active Shooter threat to universities, schools, churches, law enforcement agencies, and numerous conferences nationwide. Ed is owner of Last Resort Training & Consulting in White Hall, AR, where he offers an instructor class for active shooter and training for armed responders. In 2007, Ed retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and Battalion Commander after 24 years of active duty in the US, Europe, and Iraq. Ed then taught high school for four years and served as a deputy sheriff in Kentucky. He now serves as a part-time police officer. Ed’s formal education includes a BS in US History from the US Military Academy (West Point), an MS in Adult Education from Kansas State University, and he is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College.

2024 TEMSEA Conference
The 2024 Conference will once again allow you to decide what tracks you want to attend.
On Wednesday, July 24th, TEMSEA will host a state approved LEADERSHIP Course. This course will be hosted by Eric Clauss and Phil Sanderson, and promises beneficial to all that attend.
On Thursday, July 25th, TEMSEA will conduct our EDUCATOR track. This track complies with the state approved requirements to renew your instructor status. New for 2024, Chris Kelly will demonstrate a mock trial and provide best practices on how to mitigate litigation due to poor documentation. In addition to Mr. Kelly, we will have numerous other excellent speakers.
On Friday, July 26th, TEMSEA will host our PROVIDER track. That will be divided into your choice of Pediatric hours or Mobile Integrated Health.

State EMS I/C Course @ TEMSEA Conference
Looking to get your I/C endorsement in Tennessee? TEMSEA will be hosting the State's EMS I/C class as a TEMSEA Conference pre-con at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, TN on July 23, 2024. This course serves as an option for the required initial education component for new EMT or Paramedic I/C. It can also serve as a renewal option for all instructor endorsements. This course also supersedes the required EMR Instructor course.
Course applicants should meet all of the requirements for I/C endorsement, with the exception of student teaching hours, prior to the course date. Successful completion of the pre-course and in-person session is required to receive a course completion certificate.
Admission fee includes required pre-course modules, LIVE course, course binder, and snacks/lunch.
Admission fee does not include:
Required Course Textbook (Foundations of Education: An EMS Approach 3rd Edition; ISBN: 9781284145168)
Travel and/or lodging to/from course
A confirmation email will be received upon enrollment into the I/C course. The email will contain a confirmation of the event date, time, and course location as well as an access code/link for the required pre-course materials. Attendees must complete all portions of the required pre-course work in TEMSEA's online learning center. The pre-course certificate of completion is required for entry into the LIVE course. Attendees should allow for ample time to complete the pre-course work. Failure to complete will result in forfeiture of course dues.

West TN EMS Directors Association Instructor Update
Join TEMSEA and the West TN EMS Directors Association on May 31st, 2024 for an instructor update designed to share with current I/Cs what is being delivered during the State's approved I/C class. Have you been instructing in EMS for a while? Curious what the newcomers are being told? Has it been a while since you reviewed state educational alignments? You will hear 16 hours of new I/C content delivered in 8 hours...buckle up!
Admission will include: lunch, snacks, printed I/C materials, and giveaways. Admission does not include travel to/from or lodging for this update.
Attendance has been approved by TN State EMS Office to satisfy TCA 1200-12-01-.12 rules for renewal related to attendance at annual instructor update or conference and includes 8.0 contact hours.

16th Annual Star of Life Awards Ceremonies on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024
The EMS Star of Life event honors the accomplishments of EMS personnel across the state of Tennessee who provide exemplary lifesaving care to adult and pediatric patients. The Star of Life Award recognizes exceptional front-line care, with a focus on the agencies and providers who are the initial care responders (from dispatch to hospital doors). The ceremony reunites the EMS caregivers with the people they treat.
