Why are you interested in joining the TEMSEA Board of Directors?
To serve on the TEMSEA board would provide the opportunity to impact the future of EMS education and the future of EMS through education. Education has always had a place of importance in my heart. To be able to help influence the practice of providers and future providers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I received my first license as a provider in 2003, paramedic in 2005, and critical care paramedic in 2008. Working as both a provider and educator, I have accumulated years of experience teaching in various capacities, along with working with teams comprised of multiple agencies and disciplines.
I was able to work to create new educational opportunities for providers to which they may not otherwise have had access. Being able to work as part of a team, in this capacity, is vital in to the process of progress. I highly regard TEMSEA as a pillar of leadership within the EMS education community and would regard it as a career achievement to be able to serve on the board.

The landscape of EMS is constantly changing and how we practice it must as well. More importantly, how we teach it must reflect that constantly shifting landscape. While every program in the State does a magnificent job of training new providers at all levels, I believe we should focus on recruiting, training, and retaining new instructors. Some parts of the State are literal wastelands when it comes to instructor talent. This is not because we do not have quality candidates. This is because in some areas, we have not put in the effort to find and encourage them. Without mentoring and developing the next generation of instructors, none of this magic can happen. I would like to make it my goal to seek out new instructor candidates and offer them the mentorship and access to the deep reservoir of talent we have in Region 5. As is often said about EMS Education in Middle Tennessee, "we stand on the shoulders of giants". There is no truer statement made. We should tap into the strength and experience of those giants to recruit, train, and support the next generation of instructors. Thank you for your consideration.

Why are you interested in joining the TEMSEA Board of Directors?
I have been involved in EMS education for over 35 years. I am passionate about providers at all stages of their career having access to the most up to date, sound, evidence-based information and relevant education. This is not only to maintain licensure and certification but to be in a position to ready themselves for the very best patient care for our communities. As a seasoned care provider in a variety of roles, I strongly believe that education should not be the same old boring courses. Education should motivate and energize our EMS providers to be the best and to always seek the best outcomes for our patients. Secondly, I feel that educators should also be the role models and mentors for our providers and always be the advocate for the mental and physical health for our peers. As the program manager of Maury’s Mobile Integrated Health team, I feel that I am in a good position to promote the educational process for the future of community paramedics. We are approved by TN EMS as a Community Paramedic training site and have conducted successful courses. Additionally we have a very active MIH program utilizing Community Paramedics in our service and can lend real world experience.

Why are you interested in joining the TEMSEA Board of Directors?
I have been in EMS since 1995, and received my Paramedic in 1997. I am currently the Assistant Chief, and Clinical Educator (PM/IC) for Cheatham County EMS. I hold multiple Instructorships with AHA, NAEMT, and Handtevy. I also just completed my CCP certification. Early in my career, I served as adjunct faculty for VSCC teaching AHA classes. I stopped teaching for several years. In 2021 I was appointed to the training officer position at Cheatham County EMS when the current officer resigned his position. I was the only person in the service with an IC certification, so tag, I was it. I poured my heart and soul into this position and put maximum effort into improving our training regimen to be a well respected, and valued program. We succeeded in that effort through the dedication of our employees, and administration. We were awarded the ALS Service of the year 2023 at the TASA Conference earlier this year. Our hard work was recognized, and we are very honored. I truly believe that the success of of any EMS Service relies on it's leadership, and it's education. Our motto is "Train until you can't forget". I would love to be appointed to the Board of TEMSEA. I feel that my 29 years of experience, successes and failures, have given me the tools and knowledge to be a valuable contributor to further and shape pre-hospital education in Tennessee. My desire is to be a part of the bigger picture beyond our small county. I have a passion for education, and I want to be a part of shaping and developing our new young minds, and ensuring our seasoned folks stay razor sharp. Thank you for your consideration.

Why are you interested in joining the TEMSEA Board of Directors?
I want to serve on the TEMSEA Board because we are at a pivotal point in our profession especially when it comes to initial licensure and continuing education for the EMS Provider. We are seeing fewer and fewer students wanting to enter our profession and we are seeing our industry change sometimes faster than new protocols can be written with the growing literature on hand to guide our evidence-based practices. The education provided to these new providers as well as the seasoned ones must be up to date and pushed to them not just at a yearly conference or a every two-year refresher class but at the bare minimum monthly. I am a professional educator in a local high school for the past 19 years along with being an EMS educator since 1995. I feel that having the experience of being a certified teacher, along with a PhD from the University of Tennessee in teacher education makes me an excellent candidate for the At Large 1 position available on the TEMSEA Board.
